At the weekend, I went shopping. I went to a running shop and bought a lot of energy gels, hydration drinks and post event protein bars. Why? Because my first major running challenge is almost upon me and I need all the help I can get! This Thursday 15th December, I’m doing Chapel St’s Carolthon of 26 miles and carols around the capital (read more).
It’s certainly been a strange event to train for, due to the stop-start nature of the whole thing. Rather than running 26.2 miles in one go, I’ll be stopping off for carol concerts en route. Whereas in someways that’s going to be helpful, as I’ll get times to rest, in other ways, it’s concerning me as my muscles will be getting warm/cold, warm/cold during the day. If I stop, will I be able to start again?!
With that in mind, I’ve adjusted my training plan over the past few weeks, to try and get my body ready for that. The other weekend, I ran a higher mileage but split it into chunks of 5 miles spread across the day. I managed to do it for 15 miles, but will I be able to do it for 26.2?
Here’s hoping I have the right recipe for success. Whether it’s through some sort of buzzing, hyper-active, sugar-frenzied haze (I have bought A LOT of energy gels and hydration drinks) or a hearty cocktail of naivety, enthusiasm and adrenaline, I am determined to get round the course.
